Confidentiality and Data Access Committee (CDAC)
CDAC Tutorials and Short Courses


CDAC members have a developed a one-day short course on confidentiality and data access issues. Entitled "Privacy, Confidentiality and the Protection of Health Data - A Statistical Perspective," it has been sponsored by various organizations, including the Washington Statistical Society and the Joint Statistical Meetings. It preceded the 7th Biennial Center for Disease Control/Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (CDC/ATSDR) Symposium on Statistical Methods, held in January 1999. As an example, the major topics covered in the ATSDR/CDC one-day short course were:

  • Statistical Disclosure Limitation Techniques (SDL) for Microdata
  • Applications of SDL Techniques for Microdata
  • Statistical Disclosure Limitation Techniques for Tables

  • Restricted Access Procedures with a Focus on the National Center for Health Statistics
  • Overview of Handouts
  • Discussion, Q&A, Closing Remarks
