Confidentiality and Data Access Committee (CDAC) CDAC Tutorials and Short Courses CDAC members have a developed a one-day short course on confidentiality and data access issues. Entitled "Privacy, Confidentiality and the Protection of Health Data - A Statistical Perspective," it has been sponsored by various organizations, including the Washington Statistical Society and the Joint Statistical Meetings. It preceded the 7th Biennial Center for Disease Control/Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (CDC/ATSDR) Symposium on Statistical Methods, held in January 1999. As an example, the major topics covered in the ATSDR/CDC one-day short course were: Legal Issues Relating to the Confidentiality of Health Data Informed Consent Statistical Disclosure Limitation Techniques (SDL) for Microdata Applications of SDL Techniques for Microdata Statistical Disclosure Limitation Techniques for Tables Checklist on the Disclosure Potential of Proposed Data Releases Restricted Access Procedures with a Focus on the National Center for Health Statistics Overview of Handouts Discussion, Q&A, Closing Remarks The short course can be tailored to a particular subtopic or audience.
