NIH Sexual & Gender Minority Research Office

The Sexual & Gender Minority Research Office (SGMRO) coordinates sexual and gender minority (SGM)-related research and activities by working directly with the NIH Institutes, Centers, and Offices. Their website provides a number of resources, including publications, information about SGM measurement and data collection, and webinars.

Healthy People 2030

Healthy People identifies public health priorities to help individuals, organizations, and communities across the United States improve health and well-being. Healthy People 2030, the initiative's fifth iteration, builds on knowledge gained over the first four decades.

Recommendations on Best Practices for the Collection of Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Data on Federal Statistical Surveys

The Office of Management and Budget issued this report in January 2023. The report highlights the importance of continual learning, offers considerations for including SOGI items on surveys, provides example approaches for collecting and reporting this information, offers guidance on how to safeguard SOGI data, and concludes with a summary of challenges that need further research.

The California Health Interview Survey (CHIS) is the nation's largest state health survey and a critical source of data on Californians as well as on the state's various racial and ethnic groups. Policymakers, researchers, health experts, members of the media and others depend on CHIS for credible and comprehensive data on the health of Californians.
